Volunteering Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the Trust. We are not currently recruiting but please keep an eye on this page as we will be posting details of the volunteer roles we are looking to fill from October 2024 onwards.

To help you decide if volunteering at the Trust is for you here are some of the key attributes we seek in our volunteers;

  • The ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with all visitors to the Trust.
  • The ability to work effectively in the Trust team and to commit fully to our goal of ensuring that everyone visiting the Trust has a safe and enjoyable time with us.
  • High standards of personal presentation and hygiene. Branded polo shirts are provided free and other branded clothing is available at cost price to volunteers.
  • Empathy and approachability.
  • Willingness to engage with ongoing training to continuously improve skills for your role.

All our water-based volunteering roles require a reasonable but varying degree of physical fitness and mobility in and on our boats. You will need to have the physical capability to effectively assist visitors while on our boats, to carry out rescues and to administer first aid and CPR if required.

Previous experience and appropriate RYA qualifications are an advantage for water-based roles but training will be provided for volunteers assessed as being suitable for the roles advertised.

Due to the high cost of training we require a minimum commitment of 12 days per year for you to be considered as a potential volunteer.

There are other land-based volunteering roles available including helping with the maintenance of our boats and buildings.

To meet our duty of care to our volunteers and for the safety of our visitors we undertake an annual skills and health and fitness for role review with all volunteers. We also ask you to regularly self-assess your abilities and to speak to the staff team if you have any concerns. We will always seek to find alternative roles and to make reasonable adjustments to enable you to continue volunteering whenever possible.
