The Great Punt Run 2025: A Journey of Wind, Water, and Willpower
On June 20th, 2025, the Norfolk Broads once again played host to an extraordinary feat of endurance and community spirit—the Great Punt Run, a 50-mile sailing challenge in support of the Nancy Oldfield Trust. This year’s route, starting from Norwich and finishing at Barton Broad near Neatishead, paid tribute to the centenary of the Norfolk Punt Club, founded in 1926.
Helmed by Mark Elson, Deputy Manager of the Trust, and crewed by students from Norwich School, the team navigated the historic Norfolk Punt through rivers, broads, and open waters. Supported by a safety boat crewed by dedicated staff/volunteer members, the challenge was to complete the journey within 12 hours—a test of both seamanship and stamina.
The event raised vital funds to support the Trust’s mission: making sailing and water-based adventures accessible to people with disabilities or limited means. Every pound raised helps maintain boats, improve safety, and ensure that everyone can experience the joy and freedom of the water.
With sunshine, steady winds, and a spirit of camaraderie, the 2025 Punt Run was not just a fundraiser—it was a celebration of inclusion, heritage, and the power of community.
The total raised by this epic event was in excess of £1,500
